Errington Volunteer Fire Department 2020
Members of the Errington Volunteer Fire Department need your help to raise money for some worthy projects and we would appreciate your support.
The members who serve on the EVFD are dedicated volunteers who not only practice once a week, but also spend countless hours studying to improve their skills which results in safety for those in Errington as well as the surrounding Oceanside area.
What We're Raising Money For
An item high on the wish list of the EVFD is a Positive Pressure Ventilation (PPV) fan. Positive pressure ventilation uses positive airflow to remove heat and products of combustion from a structure on a fire scene. Electric PPV fans and blowers are used to create a positive pressure inside a building to remove heated air, smoke and other fire gases and replace with fresher cooler air. We have raised funds to purchase one unit but we require two battery-operated electric PPV fans that can be used in hazardous situations.
Another item on the wish list of the EVFD is a thermal imaging camera also known as a TIC. It is a type of thermographic camera used in firefighting. These cameras allow firefighters to see areas of heat through smoke, darkness, or heat-permeable barriers. Thermal imaging cameras pick up body heat, and they are normally used in cases where people are trapped where rescuers cannot find them.
Another project our members are working on is the restoration of the very first fire truck the department obtained. The volunteers have spent many hours under the hood of the 1949 Dodge but need to purchase some parts in order to get the vintage truck running. Aside from putting out fires and responding to motor vehicle accidents, our members also speak to children at schools about fire safety at home. They participate in community parades and would love to see the vintage fire truck driven in parades.
